This exhibition, entitled “Women in Movement,” includes artworks that examine notions of memory, belonging, and body image and that honor the resilience of the female spirit,” said Ms. Arroyo.
The exhibit features a series of paintings depicting mythical and historical women of achievement from around the world, including two pieces in tribute to the pioneers of the Women’s Movement in the US, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
Additional works in the exhibit include “Aditi,” a painting of the Hindu goddess integrated with an Indian prayer shawl, and “Ixchel,” which depicts the Mayan Jaguar goddess integrated with a Mayan skirt cloth (Hand-woven on a waist loom, from Guatemala.)
“We are thrilled to host this artwork exhibition by Andrea Arroyo in commemoration of National Hispanic Heritage Month,” said Superintendent Ami Ghazala. “This exhibition celebrates Hispanic heritage and culture and we are proud to be able to display it here at the park,” added Superintendent Ghazala.

About the artist: Andrea Arroyo is an award-winning artist with an extensive trajectory. Her artwork is exhibited, published, reviewed and collected extensively and is in the permanent collections of The Library of Congress, The Smithsonian Institution, The National Museum of Mexican Art, The Richmond Museum and The New York Public Library, and is in many private collections in the US, Mexico, Europe and Japan.
Ms. Arroyo was selected by President Clinton as Global Citizen Award Artist, additional honors include: Outstanding Woman of New York, 21 Leaders for the 21st Century; Groundbreaking Latina in the Arts; Official Artist of the Latin Grammys; Outstanding Latina of the Year; Woman of the Week, Women in the World Foundation; and the New York City Council Citation Award for Achievement in Art. She has received multiple awards from New York Foundation for the Arts, the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance, the Puffin Foundation and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
Commissions include projects for El Museo del Barrio, The International Museum of Women, The New York Women Foundation, The New York Restoration Project and The Clinton Global Initiative.
Her permanent public art can be seen at in a New York City Subway station (Glass art,) two public schools in New York (murals,) and other corporate and institutional sites.
Ms. Arroyo’s work has been published extensively, including The New Yorker, The New York Times and The International Herald Tribune and has been the subject of over 150 features in the national and international media (including CNN, NBC, NY1-TV, Pix11-TV, Univision, Telemundo, The New York Times, Newsday, The New York Daily News and The San Francisco Chronicle.)

Esta exposición, titulada "Mujeres en Movimiento", incluye obras de arte que examinan las nociones de memoria, de pertenencia, y la imagen del cuerpo en honor a la resistencia del espíritu femenino ", dijo la señora Arroyo.
La exposición cuenta con una serie de pinturas que representan las mujeres míticas e históricas y de sus logros en todo el mundo, incluyendo dos piezas en homenaje a las pioneras del movimiento de mujeres en los EE.UU., Susan B. Anthony y Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
Los trabajos adicionales en la exhibición incluyen "Aditi," una pintura de la diosa hindú integrado con un manto de oración hindú, y "Ixchel", que representa a la diosa Maya Jaguar integrado con un paño falda Maya (Hand-tejen en un telar de cintura, de Guatemala.)

Sobre la artista: Andrea Arroyo es un artista galardonada con una extensa trayectoria. Su obra se exhibe, se publica, se reseña, se colecciona ampliamente y se encuentra en las colecciones permanentes de la Biblioteca del Congreso, la Institución Smithsonian, el Museo Nacional de Arte Mexicano, El Museo de Richmond y la Biblioteca Pública de Nueva York, además de muchas colecciones privadas en los EE.UU., México, Europa y Japón.
